Green Tire Uniformity System

The Green Tire Uniformity System is a sensor and software package used to scan green tires at any stage of production to measure the key geometry features that affect cured tire uniformity and balance performance. The system is available in two configurations - portable and fixed. The portable tripod-mounted version can be moved from drum-to-drum, and from machine-to-machine, which provides a way to thoroughly study the carcass, belt/tread package, and final shaped green tire for radial and lateral runout, and splice quality. The fix-mounted version provides a means to perform 100% inspection at any drum for any parameter that is useful for understanding the population characteristics of green tire runouts and to alarm when limits are exceeded. GTU is available in several size combinations of width, depth, and standoff distance.

Features

  • User-set frequency up to 2,000 Hz (700 typical)
  • The Radial Runout Caliper measures RRO, angle, and harmonics with filtering parameters over a user-set width range
  • The Lateral Runout Caliper measures LRO, angle, and harmonics with filtering parameters over a user-set width range
  • The Splice Caliper measures splice height with filtering parameters over a user-set width range
  • The Edge Caliper measures the position and width variation of turn-up edges with filtering parameters over a user-set width range
  • The Layer Subtraction feature displays the difference between two user-selected layers
  • Diameter Measurement is achieved by inputting the sensor-to-drum offset distance to get the true diameter measurement of any layer
  • Color Map View displays the runout topography in a 16-color scale display
  • Gray-Scale View displays the runout topography in an 8-bit gray-scale image
  • Contour View displays radial and lateral waveforms
  • Data Output feature allows the user to output the entire topography as a .csv file
  • The 3D Model View displays the topography in a rotation 3D solid-model
  • Harmonic Graph View displays a table of harmonics for any waveform
  • The Auto Crop feature automatically crops any data set to 360 degrees
  • The Rotate Data feature rotates the data set to a standard orientation, such as zero degrees for the tread splice
  • The PLC Trigger starts measurement upon a relay contact closure
  • The Encoder Synchronization feature stops measurement upon one full rotation based on a encoder signal
  • The One-Pulse Synchronization feature starts and stops measurement based on a one-pulse-per-revolution encoder
  • The Row Normalization feature scales the color map based on the average of each row
  • The Column Normalization feature scales the color map based on the average of each column
